Floating of the Lanterns Closing Ceremony
"A Season for Non-violence"
The closing
ceremony of the 2008 "A Season for Nonviolence" was held Sunday, June 1st at
8:30 PM at the Park Marina Pond in Redding with the beautiful and sacred
"Floating of the Lanterns" ceremony. The ceremony is fashioned after the
Buddhist practice in Honolulu Bay, Hawaii that is held each year on Memorial
Weekend. Each peace lantern holds two peace prayers or a quote by Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. sponsored for $20 each with fifty percent of the funds going in
2008 to Shasta Women's Refuge's Education Programs. 50 lanterns were floated to
commemorate this sacred season. Click on this link to the Record Searchlight
newspaper to review the photos and newspaper article.
